My Ideas for Arcane, What do you think?

I love arcane mage.. for pvp and pve. I have a few idea's that would make it both more interesting and fun and more effective in Both pvp and pve, Tell me wha tyou guys think. Missles while moving! NO i have a better idea, arcane is about manipulating time right? you cast missles and a version of you casts it while you can move and cast somthing else, as if you poped into the future a few seconds and the past you is still casting the spell, it would be great for mobility and fun, also great for pvp so you dont have to icelance spam between barrage when running your ass off :P. Also somthing like, I dont know time snap :P somthing that moved your mana health and status back 5 seconds, maybe even position if thats possible, would give u a defensive CD that arcane really needs in pvp also a mana managment cd for pve, alowing for another burst period then time snap back to higher mana instead of just relying on evo, would make it more fun for sure. What do you guys think?
Please stop trolling the boards with this stuff. We understand that you think that arcane needs new toys. We don't, however, need this in every thread and even in its own post.
How bout giving us the old style of arc dps? The one where building up arc blast adds up to more damage to the other spells.
I wish Arcane could be more reliant on its own spells. At least having a better defensive cooldown that they can talent for or something. I coulda swore timewarp was going to be something special for arcane mages... guess not :/

Mage Leveling Spec

Which is the best?
There is no "best" IMHO.

Leveling is so trivial now you can pretty much pick a spec, roll your face across the keyboard, and gain levels.

For me I went Arcane till my low 50's then took Frost to 85. Reason being I felt Frost was kinda gimped at low levels, but once you get a stockpile of talent points it is really awesome.
I agree with Tihra pretty much. For example, I did it in reverse. I leveled frost to 80, then arcane 80-85 because of the talent that applies slow with each Arcane Blast. Either way, learn your spec's kiting abilities, and leveling is a breeze.

mage arena

anyone else bored of melee cleave strat being train mage till it dies. Currently playing at 2400 mmr and seems thats the strat for every comp its getting pretty tiresome doing the same thing every match q enter buff kite and try and get a kill before ooming and without the mana to barrier or use novas not including pet nova = healer ooming fast. In b4 get your partners to peel they do and i get sum good drinks off during games but alot of the time it just prolongs the inevitable the melee cleave with unlimited resource wins. Anyone playing at similar or higher mmr / rating have any solutions? Im armor swapping prior to huge burst on me then swapping back once cds are over.

Fire mage questions

soon to be 85 fire mage and i have alot of questions heres what i know, fire mages need alot of crit 17% hit and thats all i know. Questions.... What should i gem? being specific what should i gem for yellow sockets blue sockets or red sockets, If theres a rotation please tell

Anything else you can tell me about the class/spec would be nice.

Druid/warrior versus mage/rogue

I thought this was supposed to be a bread and butter match but we lose to this team about 80% of the time.

Heres our strat-

I go head to head with warrior until druid pops out. Rogue goes on druid, I deep freeze -> RoF the warrior. Warrior usually trinkets this and immediately hops onto my rogue. I usually am able to cc the warrior long enough for us to get the druid to pop tree. Once he pops tree we try and reset, but we run into problems, my rogue cant stay alive long enough and cant get a restealth with bleeds on him. I try and get the warrior off of him, but druid constantly dispels my stuff and the only thing I can do is Deep freeze and blanket cs which still isnt enough time. My rogue usually is dead before We can get the reset and blind the warrior and go for the druid kill.

Should we be going after warrior? If so, how do we counter the retaliation and tree form. Druid usually trinket my RoF, he gets blinded, warrior pops retaliation.

I'd really appreciate some help with this comp on what to do.
always go on a warrior. force a tree/enraged regen with your first smoke bomb. Reset and nuke the warrior again. Playing against a good warrior/healer is a pain in the ass, since the warrior will eat you or the rogue with proper dispels.
If you ever get shammy warrior just quit. going up against shear charge pummel spell reflect and grounding as a mage is a nightmare.
I don't die to that team, but I can't peel enough for my rogue. He usually dies because he cant get bleeds off and cant get away from the warrior. Ok so we go for the warrior. And we want to get the warrior to pop enrage regen and get the druid to pop tree and trinket. Whats the best way to approach this.

How are you getting a reset when the Rogue has bleeds on him?

Just curious, new to Mage/Rogue.
^^^^

This is exactly the problem. It used to not be an issue as druids didn't have magical dispels thus i could freeze the warrior for hours and DF, imp CS the druid to give my rogue enough time for the bleeds to come off.

In cata this is a whole different story as all healers have a magical dispel giving the warrior free rain over my rogue. Is it possible to burst through druid heals when he is in tree form?
Jesus, don't listen to these guys. Sup i play rogue/mage at 2416 rating.

Druid/mage is easy to beat and only loses if the team is truely ultra defensive and can get you or the rogue down in a Tdown. That's the ONLY time.

Go on warrior, hard, make sure to pet nova to get a fof charge, when druid comes out, rightclick gladius to make him your focus and hit him with a DF/rof and then kidney warrior during that time. before your pet nova breaks, he will be atout 70% hp by that time if you guys are actually getting openers on him. (make sure to sap warrior so he wastes his sap break and hit him with a CSand you should be casting Fbolt during that time, and do what was said above.

Most druids trinket Rof in the Df/rof CS him, and when cs is off, smokebomb, warrior will leap out and then charge either one of you, your rogue vanishes during this time. This is where you can do either 2 things. CC druid for 4 seconds(dr from rof) and resit back on warrior with Sdance going or hardswitch to druid You will still have blind/redirect/etc. REMEMBER, don't get into train mode, u have the ability as a mage, to frostbolt anyone at any time with this comp and causes switches, rogue will WANT to be on warrior mainly, a rogue if he's determined will never die to a warrior, bleeds don't matter, due to cripple kiting and KS/gouge(gouge mainly if he's sub) This comp can work if you're sub or even if you're envenom(which melee cleaves even more so).

This comp revolves around alot on the rogue not being a retard and trying to play like he's envenom if he's sub, tell him to think like a tool of control for you, with sdance being the surgical scalpel for you. Sub is all about control and holding people down, this comp, while not as potent as pre-patch shadow/rogue is still strong because mage is hard to hold down, and with a rogue there peeling, even harder and can cause moments where a team WILL make a mistake.

Hope the wall helped.
Yeah, basically what Dunnerdawg said. Start on War to get druid out. You can even keep the rogue stealth to try and find the druid and just let you start out on the warrior all by yourself. You might be able to catch the druid in a sap.

If you catch druid in the sap go hard on the warrior, and kite him some what near the druid so your rogue can combo sap with his blind. He will either have to eat an 8 second sap while you are kite/dpsing the war and then trinket blind, or trinket sap and eat a full 8 second blind.

Whichever he trinkets out of then, you as the mage, will want to Deep/ring the druid for another 8-10 seconds of cc. So you have a chance to pull off a full blind + deep/ring on druid while having the option of having your rogue redirecting a kidney ( which probably isn't ideal because of Dr's with deep freeze) or you can, if you rogue is really good, after you cc chain do a vanish garrote for 4.5 sec silence + shadow stepping to warrior and then your blanket cs for like 6-7 seconds of silence.

The rogue shouldn't be "tanking" the warrior. But kiting him along with you with disarms and crippling poisons.

Also if you have good timing when you catch the druid in a cc chain you want to focus on war. Have your rogue conserve his energy some so that somewhere near the end of the cc chain you can have rogue smoke bomb/kidney shot war. Make sure you are ready to be in the smoke bomb and blow all your offensive cd's on the war.

That's where the rogue vanish garrote/mage blanket cs on the druid comes into play if you can't quite finish off the war. But with crippling poison and your nova's you can also have your rogue premed to do a second smokebomb you can coldsnap for another deep/ring for a few extra seconds of ccing...
I wouldn't try to focus down the druid unless he as already blown tree form, and trinket (so he can't get out of a deep freeze or full kidney) and is in a bad spot (in the open so he can't pillar hump los you as the mage) and you are able to get the war in some kind of cc chain so he can't charge in and peel you and the rogue off before finishing druid.

It's just a matter of being able to really time out your cc chains focus one down.

If you couldn't finish off the warrior and he has a full run of dots. See if you can hard switch the druid and put the warrior in a nice cc chain... etc...

Old Player, New Mage

Hello WoW Community,

I have played a few classes in my day, have done a few raids, but unfortunately have not played in a long time. I obviously came back to WoW because of the major changes that have taken place, but that also means I still have a few things to learn. I decided to start fresh and have done a little reading on mages, but I would like some insight from "the veterans" on the most efficient spec I can pursue while leveling?

Thanks!
Studbucket
Hey i'm the same way bro. I created and started leveling a mage too. I was gone since late 08, early 09. Frost is now good for leveling.
1) Pick any spec

2) Roll your face across keyboard

3) Gain levels

Leveling is ridiculously easy now... in fact you will outlevel the zones you are in and be looking at green or gray mobs before it's all said and done.

Personally I leveled Arcane till my low 50's then went Frost to 85. Reason being I felt Frost was pretty weak without a stockpile of talent points, but once I got there it was golden and a great leveling spec.
I wasn't aware leveling was so simple now, but I guess I can't complain if that significantly cuts back on the amount of time I have to roll my face across the keyboard.

Tihra, I see what you mean about Frost. Should be a sound method to get to the cap with haste!

Why is the nerf part of Frost Specialization?

Kind of seems like a slap in the face to have our Frost Specialization state that it "Increases Frost spells and Frostbolt by x, but reduces your mastery by 6". Is that supposed to make people want to spec Frost? If you are going to nerf the mastery, just do it. Don't think we need a constant reminder every time we examine the tree.

Depressed

I look through the forums about other classes and other topics and i see that, oh so comforting, blue BLIZZ caption next to the post. I get comforted that they actually listen to what we post here. I look down the mage thread for 20 min and can't find 1. I dont even know why im posting this right now.

Mages are not Overpowered

Mages, since the first expansion was released, have had our damage output in PvP crippled due to resilience effecting our crit damage and crit chance. This innately affected mage PvP due to our class being based around crit mechanics in all 3 of our talent trees (being a pure dps class and all).

Now that resilience has been put in its place and it isn't throwing off game balance against crit based classes like it was, a lot of classes, and not just mages, are hitting harder.

Also keep in mind, health pools are going to be ridiculously huge at 85 and that's going to prevent people from being able to complain about getting killed before they have a chance to do anything. Saying that will just constitute badness on the victim's part.

I see a lot of mages saying how overpowered they are, but to be honest a lot of that is ego and also them feeling inflated after having been on the back burner for so long. I actually think mages are in a very balanced state in the game alongside any other DPS class and I'm noticing that right now in PvP every class seems to have a solid chance against any other class.

Please stop making "Mages are so friggin' OP" and the obvious counter "Mages are NOT OP" threads. They just sapawn more of each other. Frankly it's getting boring trolling these. My heart just isn't in it anymore. :-(
Mages where fine in damage in BC .

Not from what I remember. Sure were plenty of mages being shelved for walrocks during those times.
vanilla mages didnt have ice lance...or even cone of cold. ahhh the good ol' days.
Mages where fine in damage in BC and WotLK. The reasons we did so little damage is because we had survivability and control rivaled by none.

That is not true. In BC and in WoTLK we had unfair 10% damage coefficient nerfs to our main nukes. It disadvantaged us in PVE and PVP.

And it is a LIE that our control is rivaled by none. A warlock can fear you and DPS you at the same time without the CC breaking, and also interrupt you with a succy at the same time, not to mention deathcoil.

In fact every class has CC these days, it's a totally different game now and Mages should no longer act like CC kings, ours is good but it IS rivaled by many.

Mages where fine in damage in BC .

Not from what I remember. Sure were plenty of mages being shelved for walrocks during those times.

That was because warlocks were stupidly overpowered, not because mages were bad.
I'm just gonna throw this out here:

Hi, my name's Aedistan, and I got crit by an AB for 15k through 50% resilience.

OP? Maybe. Right now, 80's twinked out in pvp gear or raid gear are imbalanced as always in lower tiers, but if this bracket is a precursor to what Cata scaling will be like, if all it takes is an Arcane Blast to hit me for 40% of my health (even as a crit, this is ridiculous), rbg's will probably be maybe 2 or 3 Arcane mages with the heals and juggernauts peeling off melee and ranged from the arcane. This is especially problematic when there's enough chaos to mask an AB or two before it's too late. Even if the person had full raid gear on, if they're in the midst of chaos and aren't noticed, they might as well have 100% resilience.

I'm not saying Mages in particular are OP; there's a few classes out there that can crit massively. I'm just pointing out a particularly massive crit which happened to come from a mage.

i dunno about higher geared mages like arcane in heroic BiS gear but i hit for 54k in the razorscale fight in Uld 10 with Deep Freeze. I dunno where to compare damage logs and such, help would be appreciated.
People complaining about arc mages in pvp is starting to bug me.
If you let a mage get 4 stacks of AB, you deserve to be torn apart.
Arcane is fine. l2spell reflect. I respect any fire mage / arcane mage that can beat me. Im glad to see some mages play a higher skill cap spec then flavor of the month (FOTM) frost.

Ice lance / cone of cold 100% nova Are not fine.

I can perfectly execute a silence + focus fear / pummels on pet / spell reflects on deep freeze

And still lose because somewhere down the road they'll finally get me stuck in a GCD and pop 3 8k ice lances.

Wrathful warriors should not have to pop every single cooldown and still have 0% error output

Just to win againest a frost mage who got all their wrathful from honor points and don't even have shoulders.

Enjoy the nerf, It will come. Feel free to comment.

how do i level

Hey I havn't played this mage since TBC, and I'm noticing the class has changed quite a bit. I preferably want to level as fire but what should my rotation be on basic mobs/instances? Basically tl;dr: how to level as a mage
Umm leveling as fire will have you spamming fireball for most of the time, and a couple of aoe spells.

But until you get talents like hot streak and abilities like living bomb, fireball will be the spell your casting most of the time. flame strike is okay to use again once the floor dot is gone for aoe, but you really don't wanna get into the habit of spamming it.
The second tier talent "impact" will have you spreading ignite and other dots to nearby targets when you use fireblast. (And for the love of god, new mages please stop hard casting pyroblast every cast)
Depending on how fast mobs die, you may also be able to just scorch spam. If I were you, I'd get improved scorch talent so it is free to cast.
Target an enemy, cast Pyroblast. Cast fireball. Cast the last fireball (assuming it isnt dead already). For elites its a little different and really you wont have access to a lot of the core abilities that make fire awesome till the 60s.

That said, as fire you will still be 2-3 shotting normals all the way to northrend. Then its 5 or 6 shots if you are unlucky.

Once you have the abilities youll want to start a fight off with either a scorch or a pyroblast to apply critical mass which increases the crit chance of all fire spells. Second you want to put on living bomb (gained at 69), and then flame orb (gained at 81). From there its fireball spam till you get hot streaks which you use immediately and impact procs which you use to spread dots to multiple mobs. The only tricky thing to use is combustion (speced into at minimum 39). The reason why combustion is tricky is because you want to use it when you simultaneously have critical mass, a large ignite (the most important thing), Living bomb (second most important thing), and pyroblast's dot (least important thing) on the target. There is an add on that almost all mages use called combustion helper to make sure combustion is used at the right time.

arcane dps question

So i'm in the process of building up rep and just running regular dungeons to get into my 333's...

I have been running with guild, and have noticed as everyone is gearing up together, pretty evenly... that their dps is increasing and mine is staying around the same at 7k ish, given the fight. I'm currently up against a warrior and a shammy.. both are doing about 9 now.. it seems as i get gear my dps is increasing very minimally compared to the others..

I asked in trade chat about reforging and thru the trolls got some advice in reforging everything into mastery.. i did that, but dps went down a bit.. I'm keeping mana pool high, but w/ regular dungeons no fights are long enough to require an evocate ..

Any tips? should I gem a certain way (other than hit and i know i'm in greens) or is this just the arcane experience while gearing up...

Thanks!
Don't bother gemming or enchanting until you have at least 333s; I don't usually until I get 346.

Your hit is fine for heroics, your mastery is a bit low: grab a couple of the cheap justice point pieces if you absolutely cannot get a piece to drop.

If bosses are dying before you get to evocate, even in reg, then you're doing it wrong. Reg bosses (total group dps: 34k=9k+9k+7k+6k with wiggle room) should stay up for at least 40 seconds, barring boss mechanics like Rajh and Erudax.

7k dps is respectable, though, for an overall number in your gear. Hopefully that's not your spike dps.

I would suggest upgrading to a mh/oh combo instead of that staff. While it's a nice staff, the added stats of mh/oh can't be beat, especially considering the oh intellect enchant.

EDIT: Also, your average ilvl is now 329. You should be able to queue for heroics with a guild group, and they can carry you until your dps gets a bit higher.

Is the Arcane "buff" live yet or not?

Anyone know?
/flex

it is now
not here
ok looks like it is live, just did 11mil damage to a dummy and not once did i run out of mana, just evocate whenever volcano card has a few seconds left on the buff and it brought me back to full.

totally lame dps though, 11k overall dps after 11mil damage, probably need to reforge my junk
Was there another buff (in addition to the Mana redux buff) that I am unaware of?
after playing with it for awhile, turns out you can use nothing but arcane blast during heroic boss fights and still have mana to spare, doing 17k-24k dps by the end of the fight depending on the amount of movement required during the fight

Priest/Warlocks Unbeatable ?

Am I the only one that has this issue ? I went Fire (Bad idea I know), wasted my money. So I went back Frost, sure I lasted, slightly longer. However, seeing as how I have to actually cast a frost bolt, try an steal their shield, which is cloaked with other buffs I do not need, I found myself doing next to no damage. I have even seen some fights end with them at 90%. What am I doing wrong ? Oh ya, I dont even have the energy to write up anything on Warlock, im sure you know what im talking about. Oh ya, forgot to throw in thier that most of em just DoT, and run the other way. Around a pillar or corner, or just keeps maxium distance. More dots, some minor spell here and thier they cast, but the damage really does add up.
there not unbeatable you just need to try arcane. with that you can silence them then hit them with AB a few times and win. if they throw on too many dots do the mirror image trick when u cast that then ice block then you go invisible pop up behind them while there busy attacking the fakes kill em. :P

Feedback on frost twink

Hai... Im planning on twinking this toon out at 70 (not much choice as im bc capped)

my plan is to first hit around 33% crit, cap spell pen/hit (or close to)

That should leave me with a fair few empty gems slots. I was thinking to first stack resil until I hit around 32% then fill the rest with int and a bit of stam.

You think thats the best plan? What % dmg reduction do u guys like to run for solo q bgs? Should I be trying to get haste up to high lvls before resil/int?
I don't think trying to get to 33% crit is a good idea. You might jip yourself out of useful stats like haste. Besides, I don't think it's possible to reach 33% crit at that level.

If you want to survive more rather than do more damage/CC, then stacking resilience is the way to go. I, personally, wouldn't stack resilience because I prefer to go "offensive" rather than "defensive". I'm personally at around 33% damage reduction, but that's because I'm bathed in shiny epix.

I say raise your crit slightly (around 18-19 perhaps?), but you could go for other stats like haste in order to get quicker casts off after you finished with crit rating.

This is just my opinion though.
ok thx for the thoughts... for the record tho 50% crit unbuffed is possible at lvl 70 due to stacking wtlk gems in bc epics. 33% is pretty easy to obtain with a couple gems and leatherworking. I guess ill try for a even mix without giving up too much haste.

Spell pen

Can your spells get resisted even with max spell pen?
no

Negative ghostrider
yes

joke

no
No.

There is a trinket that increases spell resist by 400 or so for a short duration, but almost no one uses it.

Stack 240 and you should never get a resist.

Mana adept, is it flawed for Intel procs?

Question (concern) about mana adept and Intel increasing procs. Intel procs increase my total mana allowed, but don't raise my current mana (when my mana is 60,000/90,000, or 66%, and I proc all my intel, I go to 60,000/130,000, or a little less than 50%). If mana adept is based on percentage of mana remaining of my total, doesn't this actually reduce the effectiveness of my mastery bonus? I could see if it increased my current mana (going to 100,000/130,000) but it doesn't do that. Please help me figure this out.
Yes, it does reduce the effect on mastery, but generally speaking the int proc is still a dps increase, even with the loss to mastery since int is such a ridiculous stat. You also get more mana back through mage armor since it's percentage based and your total pool has grown.
The Int procs increase DPS, but it isn't fun knowing that you'd get more out of the same item or enchant if you were any other spec of caster. It just feels like a problem that shouldn't exist. Tanks and PvPers automatically gain the HP to fill up their bar when they pop cooldowns to increase their max HP. I don't think it's beyond reason for casters to get the same topping up effect when their mana bar inflates.
You do get more. During the inflated int you will regen larger chunks of mana, so that when the int buff wears off you can end up with a higher mana percentage than when you started.

You do more damage while Power Torrent is active
You do more damage after Power Torrent wears off

How's that bad?

Pet action frame bar

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew a script or addon that can remove or hide the pet action bar frame. Since pets are always out know he bar is ugly and annoying. If anyone has any sort of script or addon that would be amazing.. Thanks on advanced
Bartender

Glyph of poly

Glyph of Polymorph
Someone help me understand why there's a glyph that remove your DOT's?
Because its all dots if someone dots something up you can't poly it, even if it was supposed to be poly'd and the dot was accidental. So basically you can keep polymorph up unless someone is directly attacking.
^
I have used it many times because of accidental dots or dots being spread
Oh, lol how dumb i was, didn't even knew that...
now i see why my polys failed so much..

Thanks for replying :)

You're crazy if you ever take out G of poly.

Hard cast Pyro?

Would it be viable to open up a boss fight with a hard cast pyroblast so that you are guaranteed and combustion right away? It's a real POS having to depend on hotstreak to proc.
The pyro dot adds very little to the combustion damage (the highest contributing factor being ignite). That said it is always good to open a fight with a hardcasted pyro and pray it crits giving you a big ignite. This way you don't really have to delay your flame orb cast.

Mage leveling spec

So i decided after a long time to play my mage again. im level 66 and was wondering what spec would be the best? currently im arcane with fire OS. atm it feels like arcanes the best. if i pull a mob it doesnt even have time to get close. however if i pull more then 1 i take hits hard.

My OS is fire and i just dont know how to use it correctly.

as for frost i havnt tried to use it since like level 20ish.

SO is any of the 3 specs really better for leveling then the other 2 or is all just a matter of which you prefer? thanks : )
Level 66, I preferred Arcane. Frost was boring to me. For pulling, I generally sheeped 1, burned other down and if there were more than 2, I would frost nova any that got too close and burned them after my initial target.

I never leveled fire since pre-4.0 when Pyro's cast time was awlful. Now I generally pull with pyroblast, Living bomb and then fireball/scorch for single targets. For multiple (3+) I open with blastwave, living bomb, scorch and hope to spread DOTs w/ impact proc. Dragon's breath if they get close and frost nova if needed.

Trinket Question

Which is better for fire

Witching Hourglass or Gale of Shadows

Refrain from "LAWL STUMP OF TIME/VOLCANO DMC" plox, these are temporary.
The Hourglass by far.

I never got it though... didn't drop a single time in 18 H BRC runs.

Thanks.

I'll ask again

What is the scent from our jocks that all of you other classes love to get on it so much?
I don't feel as if I know a person until I've sniffed their crotch...

Mirror Image Question

I have some questions about the mage ability Mirror Image. As a Fire mage, my mirror images shoot Frost Bolts unless glyphed. I find the frost bolts useful as some extra CC, but I'm curious as to why anyone would want to glyph Mirror Image so that they use spells of your primary spec? Do your mirror images benefit from things like your Talents or Glyphs? Can they take advantage of ignite or other fire talents when it's glyphed?

If not, I don't see the benefit of using the glyph, since the slowing affect of the frostbolts would far outweight them shooting fire in hope that any decent player would somehow be fooled into confusing them with my actual character.
The glyph is mostly cosmetic. It's not a dps increase like some people say it is, because your images stop casting fire blast when glyphed. For pvp, you will probably want to stick to vanilla images.

As an arcane mage, I've glyphed to get arcane-firing mirror images because the damage they do seems to be about double the mirror image frost damage. It's still not a lot of damage output, but I'll take anything I can get. And I slow targets automatically anyhow with Arcane Blast.
Entirely cosmetic, or if you plan to use the glyph in pvp as fire/arcane, and thus plan to conceal yourself amongst your clones for a moment to confuse enemies. But let's get real here, nobody pvp's as anything but frost now to survive (mages are a focus target nowadays for various reasons - consult arenajunkies.com to see why).

Even if you claim to get a dps increase from the glyph in pve (they do not benefit from YOUR Torment the Weak talent, or munch Ignite), Mirror Image itself isn't even a dps talent. It's a threat-shield talent, not meant to boost dps but hide our threat for 30 seconds; the dps/dmg it adds is minute in the big picture.

Since ignite wont/cant be fixed...

completely makeover the talent, im sick of ignite munching, its retarded.

Change the talent entirely.

that is all

Come on now

- Arcane

Arcane was good back in WotLK, a bit OP, if you must. So, you think changing around the AB stack debuff to ONLY AB will bring us down to everyone's level? No, that nerfed us into the ground completely. You guys see this problem, and yet you just bypass the fact that you could just change it back to the way it was, only make the damage stack a little lower. But no, you want to just keep on lowering the mana cost of AB by 1% every week. -.- That isn't going to make Arcane better, and the more you lower the cost, the more you're promoting the same fact you tried to diverge away from going into Cata (Spamming AB). There is one simple thing I can tell you right now. The only way to FIX arcane is to completely trash the current system of it, and make a new one. Plain and simple.

- Frost

Frost has usually been spamming Frostbolt for it's "rotation", we all know this. But I think you did a great job fixing it to make more viable in PvE at the launch of Cata. I really do, and I enjoyed playing Frost while raiding. Imo, the priority system was much harder than Arcane and Fire, and I liked that. Then 4.0.6 came around. Yes, I understand Frost Mages we're OP in PvP. I knew that nerf was coming. But if you look at the "nerf" closely (cause personally, I don't think you have), all you did was change it back to "SPAM MOAR FROSTBOLT". You nerfed our Mastery, but buffed Frostbolt's damage by 15%, THEN went and nerfed Deep Freeze's damage. Deep Freeze had no reason to be nerfed whatsoever. That was the one big hitter that we had, now it hits like a buffed Fireball.

- Fire

Fire has always been one of the most RNG dependent specs in all of WoW, without a doubt. Reasons for this are:

1 How you so heavily revolved Fire around crit, which has to be the worst stat to make a spec dependent on. You get mana back from crits, HS procs from crits, Ignites, etc.

2 You're bright idea of changing Combustion ALL around. This would be a good change up, if you actually fixed Ignite munching. Combustion's new form revolves around having a big Ignite up THE SECOND you hit your Combustion. And with dots rolling all over the place, there's honestly no telling which Ignite your Combustion will be using. So, bring back the old Combustion, or fix Ignite munching. Plain and simple.

3 Probably Fire's biggest problem is Ignite munching. This has been promised to be fixed one too many times. There have been SO many solutions suggested to you to fix this, and we have yet to see this even touched. I'm not even going to go into the ways to fix it, because there are literally too many.

What are your guys' opinions? Do you agree, or do you believe Mages are in "a good place" (as Blizz always says) right now?
Arcane was good back in WotLK, a bit OP, if you must

If I recall correctly, FFB was better in Ulduar, and Fire was better during ICC and RS.
Forgive me, haven't been playing this game that long.

Started raiding ICC around when 4.0 hit (when arcane was ridiculous)

New to mage

so as the title says and allthough I am only levleing, I get bored and try out the differnt specs.

i can only seem to do about half of the damage in arcane and fire as i can do in frost.. is this because of low level and gear?

i mean ive read, and no matter how hard i try i just can't get dps out of anything then frost
Fire and Arcane mages take a bit more work to get good dps over frost. Now I really don't know much on Arcane or Frost mages, but a Fire Mage really has to play off some of its procs or something that increases its Crit chance. From what I've played with the best procs a fire mage can get are Hot Streak and Ignite. Without these two procs I've never actually been able to mount of a good amount of dps.
Not sure what you're doing when you fight Arcane, but if you're not taking out even cons in about 3-4 casts at most, somethings missing.

By your level I think you should be able to get Slow into your AB. And at that point max range, you should be downing everything even con before they hit you a second time.

I just find this a little bit funny.

I can practically sleep during dungeons and still pull more dps than the other two dps combined. In fact I'm shocked if someone does over half my dps. I realize this isn't endgame and I'm Arcane (haters gonna hate). But it tickles to me see how OP Arcane mages can be at this level. It'll be sad when I hit higher levels and things balance out, I won't be able to take a nice nap through dungeons anymore if I want to do good dps.
My arcane dps > yours Gnometrius I'm sorry. But then again so is my fire. But we had this talk and you were beaten down by several mages who commented on doubling your dps, if I recall.
@poster below arcane was under performing pre patch still.
With arcane you will pretty much just need AB until you do your first cataclysm dungeon. Maybe pop arcane power but htat may have you out-threat the tank and youll have to find your MI button.

Arcane will win in DPS meters for any fights that you can simply stand in one spot an mash AB down as fast as you can. I haven't seen any numbers post 4.1 but pre-4.1 mages were equivalent dps to just about every other class (except hunters that are way off-balanced for single target dps atm).
Haha I remember doing my good ol' AB x3 AM -> ABx4 barrage, rotation on my first Cata dungeon boss @80 bout 2 days ago (just came back to the game). Dont recall the dps, but the lvl 84 Frost DK complained a bit, so I noticed the fight ended and I had a full mana bar, I figured I'd Arcane Blast spam the 2nd, whooped him and everyone else (bout 8.5k), the other 3 guys mocked him and he groupquit, lol.

Can someone answer this for me? ^.^

Ty
It's an RNG based DPS class..

That and Scorch weaving is interesting.
Hot Streak, Impact and Combustion are all based around high crits to proc, and Ignite (which relies on high crits) is usually the second damage dealer below Fireball. Crit is a percentage, so you could crit or you might not, which accounts for discrepancy in dps.

Arcane help

I could use some help with my arcane mage. Pre-cata I was ok, but doing almost the same thing in cata, I can't get my dps past 11 or 12k it seems on a raid boss. My gear is pretty good so I can't figure out why I'm doing the same dps as when it wasn't so good. I've been going for int, crit and mastery as stats. I usually spam arcane blast till I'm at about 80% mana, then hit a mana gem, spam more till I'm at about 30%, then evo, spam it more till about 60% then arcane missle and barrage it till I get some mana back and repeat. I'm in mage armor the entire time. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Instead of going back down to 60% mana after Evocating, stay up at 90 to 95% mana and see if that helps. It should, because of the great mastery bonus.
Thanks, I'll try that. What's a good mastery percentage? I'm at about 14.75%
I do allright in raids averaging about 14k dps according to WoL. Arcane isn't the most powerfull to begin with. The reason we are barely as good as we were at end of wrath is because of the stat weights at 80. What we had were arcane mages stacked with 60% faster hit with a spell that barely cost much mana after we got a larger mana pool from all the sp to int buff. Throw in some mastery and we were op.

Now spells cost more, we go oom faster and everything isnt as awesome as it was pre cata.

As far as helpfull pointers, stack crit if you plan to go fire, its the worst stat for arcane by far. Currently i am stacking int > mastery > haste > crit. Once you get more int you have a larger pool and the more mana you will get per tick from mage armor making haste not too shabby.

During a boss encounter i will cast arcane blast 2-3 times (or once if i am unlcky and get a trinket proc), blow Arcane power and mana gem and arcane barrage down to 40% evocate, and use the normal 4 ab, am rotation till evocate is almost ready, then burn again and pop whatevers avail mana gem or ap. Mana Gem is not for mana if you are arcane with the Improved mana gem talent.

mastery is broken and junk dump it and get crit

if you have trinkets and enchants that proc int its going to gimp you
if you need to use your mana to burn its a gimp, untell its fixxed you should lose mastery

PVP help

Hey guys, my mage is 68 or so and i've tried all three trees for pvp. They're all ok. The biggest problem i'm having is that i get focused all the time and have a hard time trying to stand still casting frostbolt/arcane blast/fireball in bgs. Any suggestions for mass type of pvp where you have like 4 on 4 and so where you get constantly focused?

feeling broken

Any else feel this way?

I know that all classes are broken right now whether they be overpowered or underpowered.

But I honestly feel like our burst in pvp has gone down and our dps in pve could be better.
shh your already overpowered. u guys needed nerf and the nerf wasnt all that bad.
if they were to improve your burst then there is no way to beat a double mages.
thats 2 class that is op in one team.

Lulz.
mages are terrible in arena, they have no dispell protection. mages are good in bgs, becuase they are mages.
OH btw dragon, it wasnt a nerf at all, mabye on ice lance but frostbolt got + and ice lance got 15+ in freeze, where you do your burst. they didnt get nerfed at all. and the ring of frost nerf almost helped me, i can just kite around it eaiser now Lol.

PvP Reps/Gear

Curious about what reputations I should be aiming to grind (to plan where I'll level) if I'm going PvP on this character. My main is Exalted with all except Dragonmaw, although I'm not sure that matters since most of the enchants aren't BoA (sigh).

I'm wondering if it's even worth bothering, since by the time I grind the reps I would hopefully have enough honor to fill those slots with PvP gear. Should I bother, or is there some key pieces I should be going for?

Deleted by Cakezilla
You can also get the head and shoulder enchants w/ honor.

Suggestion to improve Arcane mobility.

This is purely from a PvE perspective, I haven't given much thought towards how it would affect PvP, since I figured most mages pvp'd as frost anyways.

So my idea is to give Arcane a little more mobility by having Arcane Barrage have a reduced or no CD when Arcane Potency is active. That way if you had to move, you could pop Presence of Mind, and have at least 3 instant cast spells (Blast + 2 Barrages). If necessary, have Barrage not benefit from the increased crit, or have some other drawback to it (less damage, increased mana cost, etc.).

Alternatively, you could tie this effect into Presence of Mind or Arcane Power, maybe into Blast stacks (reduce CD by 1 sec per stack?).

Any other constructive ideas, suggestions, or comments are welcome.
This is one of the few Arcane mobility ideas i actually like. It might work.
This is one of the few Arcane mobility ideas i actually like. It might work.

Sorry, but the Dev's have already said that they are trying to find ways to help casters that aren't instant casts...
I always thought it would be cool to have arcane missiles able to cast while moving. Fire has scorch.
Fire owns mobility... why fight it.

Join us... respec fire...why fight it...lol

RetPaladin/hunter and druid/warrior v Rog/Mag

My comp is having a huge issue with these 2 comps. Ret paladin hunter I can't stay alive long enough. While Im kiting the paladin, the hunter has free rain over me. I try and stay in LoS, but I cant stay for too long with the paladin constantly chasing me. We have got to be missing something on this comp.

Druid/Warrior, I thought these guys were supposed to be easy?

Usually starts out with me soloing warrior until druid pops. Rogue goes on druid, i DF/RoF. Warrior trinkets, charges rogue. After stun, rogue blinds but has bleeds. We try to burst, druid pops tree form. Cant burst through, warrior gets out of blind and starts to wack on my rogue. I try to keep him off but the druid keeps dispelling all my %*!#. I have tried imp cs and then freezing but it only gives me 4 secs. I'm really at a loss as to what to do.

best pve spec and rotation

right now im arcane my dps sucks in my opinion it could be my rotation or spec im not sure so can someone help me out and tell me whats a good spec and rotaion for pve dungeon and raids alike.
here is my mage forgot to post with him.

My brother needs help (frost)

(just so u guys know, this is not a OMG FROST OP post, nor a FROST IS FOR NUBS post. THis is a real situation that Id like to get my brother though so he can help my guild through Heroics and raids some day.)

Sup mage forums?

I have a Twin brother who plays a frost mage (he will not play any other spec because he loves the pet so much.) He does not PvP much, so he is running around with me or solo doing quests and dungeons.

I was not sure if Frost was the best PvE spec but i could not talk him into going Arcane for long in late WotLK.

to the point_________

My Twin's character:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/guldan/vynessavia/simple

I need to know many things from this post.

1: What stats do i need to help him look for?

2: What should i change about his spec (i know it needs change, i just chose x%s and procs to keep it easy up until now)

3: Where should I look for gear for him to wear?

4: DPS rotation

5: other tips on helping my Brother.

I Know that some one will come on here and say "what a NOOB" or "Go Arcane/Fire!" or maybe worse things.

So just so you guys know, my brother is Autistic and i am proud of him getting this far without any one playing his character for him :)
So if possible, try to come up with a rotation that does not require rocket science or Trig to figure out. thx.

THank you for the help. will be back l8er today to check up on the post :)
bunch of threads on this bro
You want to shoot for 33.33% raid buffed crit so that your talent "shatter" which increases your critical chance on frozen (or targets considered frozen by your fingers of frost talent) targets by 3. 3x33.33% = 100% crit chance. You want 17% hit so you never miss the boss, then you want as much haste as you can get after. mastery is the lowest on your priority list.

As far as rotation goes. Start with frost bolt and then mirror image right after. then I usually use pet freeze on the boss and deep freeze him. I assume you took the talent that allows your pet freeze to give you 2 free fingers of frost procs when you use it so that your deep freeze will be able to be used and hopefully crit. The mirror images will prevent you from pulling threat from the awesome damage deep freeze does. That will use up one of your two fingers of frost stacks? I guess is the word I'll use. Start Frost bolt spamming. If you get a fingers of frost proc from a frostbolt, use ice lance right away so that you always have one fingers of frost stack available to you. The reason is the Brain Freeze Talent. This allows you to cast an instant cast frostfire bolt. If you kept your fingers of frost stack at 1 then you can immediately use this free cast and crit with it!! this does massive damage. If you, like most players, use up your fingers of frost proc right away you will have to wait for your frostbolt to proc another fingers of frost stack so that your Free frostfire bolt does the maximum damage. its worthless to fire a frostfire bolt without fingers of frost in most situations. It does so much more damage if you guarantee that it crits. Fingers of frost can only stack 2 high, so if you cast a frost bolt and it gives you one more fingers of frost and you are sitting at 2 stacks, use an icelance to bring it back down to 1. Use your frost orb on cooldown, use deep freeze and pet freeze on cooldown. If I have any fingers of frost stacks before I pet freeze I icelance once or twice to clear my fingers of frost stacks and then pet freeze to renew it at 2 stacks. I then either icelance one away, or use deep freeze. Note: Pet freeze and deep freeze are usually used by me at the same time.

I know that was a lot as far as rotation goes but its good info.

Frost is very single target minded. Blizzard is good on many low hp mobs or in certain situations but mosty you are just going to be focusing on one target if you play frost, easily switching between targets, but mostly only casting on one at a time.

*****************SPEC*****************
Take 3 points out of arcane concentration. Put two points in netherwind presence. Take all the points out of Shattered barrier, reactive barrier, ice shards, and piercing chill.

in the fire tree put 3 in burning soul and 3 in ignite on the second row of fire talents.

Glyph Frostfire bolt, Frostbolt, and deep freeze.

The reason we want the ignite talent is that frostfire bolt counts as a fire spell, and if you use your free and instant frost fire bolt with a fingers of frost proc, it will crit and burn the mob for a good amount of additional damage.

Put points in improved freeze so that your pet gives you 2 fingers of frost procs when pet freeze is used.

*******Gear*******

Just run heroics and take any gear with int/stam and hit/crit/haste/mastery in that order.

once you hit 17% hit the order is crit/haste/mastery/hit
once you hit 33.33% crit raid buffed the order is haste/mastery/crit/hit

Idk im tired of typing now. I hope this all helped you out.

ill check this post in a bit, if you have any questions ill respond to them hopefully. here is a great raiding frost spec.

EDIT

Here is the link with included glyphs

guess not. ok
itt: post question, leave forever
I was actually curious about the same spec/glyphs, thanks Marcus :D
Thx for the info Marcus :D

ill get him started as soon as possible.

Perfect!

In addition to their current spells, mage Mirror Images now can randomly cast Frost Nova, Ring of Frost, Portal: Dalaran, and Mirror Image. Mirror Images summoned by Mirror Images can also cast Mirror Image. Mirror Images summoned by Mirror Images that are summoned by Mirror Images can also cast Mirror Images. Mirror Images that are summoned by Mirror Images that are summoned by Mirror Images that are summoned by Mirror Images…

This is exactly what we needed! I can't wait to try this out.

If someone else reads this, and I'm doing something wrong, please tell me. I'm always glad to learn.
Mine is what most raiders do, but some people trade the 2 points in Improved fire blast for pyromaniac. Personally I find IFB more useful for boss fights while pyromaniac is more of a trash thing for heroics. Its largely personal preference
Check out Zythian's build on the armory. He's just full of awesomesauce. He's on the Mal'Ganis server.

Please community... a question of help!

So 2's is basically broken because of two comps. Those are:

Shaman (or any healer really)/Lock

Dk/Resto Druid

I main a mage, and for the Shaman Lock team... as long as I'm running with a druid it's fine (resto shamans go pretty damn oom when they purge stuff).

But... I have ZERO idea on how to beat DK/Resto Druid. Everytime I feel like I'm going for the kill against the DK, he just has too many magic resistance spells for that OH SH*T moment (coped with the druid Cyclone...clone clone...). Druid can HoT up and, PHWFF round' the corner, making them DKS that much harder to kill.

And unless I catch that druid completely (I mean COMPLETELY) out of position, and that DK doesn't know how to peel for sh*t or doesn't use AMZ, I just won't kill the druid.

So any advice? Or am I QQ-ing lol

Dragon's Breathe and Cone of Cold macro

Im trying to fit Dragon's Breathe and Cone of Cold on one button and im currently using a castsequence macro

/castsequence reset=17 Dragon's Breathe, Cone of Cold

the problem is I can only cast Cone of Cold once in this macro (once I use cone of cold, dragon's breathe reappears)
Ive tried this:

/castsequence reset=17 Dragon's Breathe, Cone of Cold, Cone of Cold
but this makes it so the reset on Dragon's Breathe lags (even though the cd is done, Cone of Cold is still showing for a few seconds)

Can someone help me?
castsequence macros are usually terrible and this is no exception. Could you instead bind it to the same key +shift or alt?
Try this:

/castsequence reset=combat dragon's breath, cone of cold, cone of cold

This gives you the sequence you are wanting, and no matter where you are in the sequence it will reset to the beginning (dragon's breath) as soon as you leave combat (so the macro will be ready to go for your next fight).

Try this:

/castsequence reset=combat dragon's breath, cone of cold, cone of cold

This gives you the sequence you are wanting, and no matter where you are in the sequence it will reset to the beginning (dragon's breath) as soon as you leave combat (so the macro will be ready to go for your next fight).

Which doesn't solve his problem with the sequence not letting him Dragon's Breath when the cooldown expires unless he wants to spam cone of cold continuously...

OP, your best bet really is a separate keybind or a modifier for cone of cold.

so just did some 2s today

so aside from being the kill target every single fight

ive noticed that every thing can blow me up instantly even with 3100 resilience

so i was wondering should i stack more res? cuz ret pally hunter team almost instantly killed me when i stoped to cast a sheep
ret pally + hunter is a pretty vicious combo against you. The best you can do is LOS the hunter and try to kill the pally as he goes after you. Ring of frost is your friend. I don't think resil is the answer, we stay alive by being slippery. Hunters just blow us up, they are once again our mortal enemies. You see one, you run or blow him up when you can.
As for sheeping, its dangerous to do out in the open. Try rooting/ROF before hand.
Then again I'm not an arena master, I'm a dragon slayer ;) .... But with my little experience that is what I would try against that combo.
the thing is i coudlnt even set up ring of frost cuz i was scared of getting globaled.

i ran away and evoed while my rogue finished the hunter

and tbh if it was any better team they woulda @#@%d me and kept up the pressure following and finshing me

this none sense about mages having way to many cc

it only applies to 2 classes and thats warriors and rogue, our damage was nerfed way to much to a point where i do 10k frost bolt crits on a warlock when i do get a cast off(he had a shaman healer)

so all i am asking is either make frost bolt hit like a truck or give us haste back
They removed haste from the game?

!%%@...
they didnt remove it but they made it so that we cant stack haste any more
you can stack haste, and in fact some mages are with the frostbolt/ice lance changes but crit just seems better (to me at least) because not critting on shatters make me sad.
I can't blow you up....but you are the one and only class I can beat. Thanks I guess
Well we all know the hate bliz throws at mages, particularly frost. Frost has been the least viable PvP spec since 4.0 dropped.
they regressed u guys by creating that crit multiplier crap for your frost talent and forcing you guys to gear for crit just to get back to your original state.

Only this time without the haste.

mage spec

hello i plan to roll a mage witch im gearing up with boas right at this moment and i want to know is this a ok spec for pve wise http://www.wowhead.com/talent#ohhZffhbzbRosfoc:bRoMRk0zm or is this the same spec that any noob mage can come up with and if you see my glyphs i just like frostfire bolt +15% crit better then fireball crit 5% if im wrong pls tell me nicely thx

Remember Wands...

Over the years of fighting easy-mode classes and non-mana users I have found that some times when you’re fighting a redo/do-over AKA second try class (ohh the fight is going bad let me just heal and try it again) like a healing druid (unlike true/pure classes who do one thing and take skill...and are out dated) you have to deal with a thing called mana.

I have noticed that most classes get white damage or free dps that they don’t have to spend a resource on. I thought to myself mages had that at one time ...what was it?OH it was our wands, so I went down to the old test dummies and relearned to shoot my wand...It was useless low damage, you have to skillcast it and you can’t cast abilities over it.

And out of the corner of my mind I remembered it even had a skill in the tree for it,"wand specialization" back before easy/instant leveling (way back in the day). I guess blizzard thought it was a good idea to weave using a non-auto cast weapon between your skillcasting to conserve mana.

After putting my wand back in my dusty weapon box I thought; you know wands are actually kind of cool. Old school magicians would use the black and white ones, and there are movie series dedicated to there use. Why can’t mine be useful?

Well after a fue changes we could have a colorful range of fireworks whizzing by making our wands useful and interesting again.

My Idea to make wands cool is to have them shoot automatically even while you cast your other spells, giving mages white damage like other classes and helping with mana. But the most interesting thing about wands is that they can shoot anything crackly fire, shadowy arcane bolts, or even golden holy damage. You could make all kinds of them or even let mages customize them any way they like. Hell, Dk’s get their own weapon enchants.

Yea they are useless, yea I pay a points premium in there item level for something’s I don’t use, so really you should take their shooting ability away and raise my stats in my wand anyhow. But if you can make a whole bunch of useless vanity pets, why not give mages some cool options besides seeing the same old spec-spells rotations.

Just a rant but I think it’s a halfcocked Idea that could be very fun.

Wands were part of the game when Blizz expected players to enjoy the experience, rather than just the end result. So use of wands added variety to attacks, conserved mana, finished mobs, was essential in phase 1 of Onyxia to take her to phase 2 to lift off, etc..

Blizz has been trying, with little success, to return this immersiveness into the game, which players routinely reject. Instead, everyone is trying to minimax for the quickest kill for the fastest loot. Then they get the loot and stand around in Org saying "bored". You cannot win with the ADD generation, its all about "I want my loot now!". Anything that stands in the way is discarded.

Blizz had no idea that greed would drive the entire game design and no matter what they do to change it and move us into a virtual world/community, they have little success against a player base who focus on the outcome rather than the process. But thats the disease of Western civlization and WOW just reflects it. There is more to a game than getting loot and more to life than getting stuff. But on this player base, and many other games, its lost.

So much for a decent creative idea.
My Western Civilization is the epitome of perfection. You would do well to curb your tongue, outlander.
^^^^

I strongly believe this. I REALLY liked the cutscene in wrath for Wrathgate. I want questing to be actually fun so that leveling isn't such a pain in the ass.
I agree that it's sad that wands have become just a 'stat stick' but I don't see what can be done about it now.

I'm puzzled by the comment, however, that Blizzard wants to return immersiveness to the game. That's the exact opposite of what they are trying to do. They have said many times, ever after cata, that they want to make the game more accessible. Expecting newbies to figure out how and when to wand would just be another barrier to that accessibility.

And I reject the idea that it's a 'generational' problem. It's basically about money. How do you attract people to the game who are just not that into MMOs or RPGs. I think the fate that Blizzard wants to avoid more than anything else is the Ultima fate. It's an MMO that has lasted more than a decade, has an dedicated fan base, is profitable and yet which has no one actually plays.

Personally, I think it has more to do with Blizzard employees needing to be 'rock stars' and 'industry leaders' than anything else. Being satisfied with being a niche player is just not in their psyche.

Invisibility bug.

When you cast a spell in invisibility, you will cast the spell on the target, then automatically de-target that person, this is really frustrating in pvp especially, just letting you guys at Blizzard know.

Thanks :)
ya, it happens. just part of the transition from Ethereal to Corporeal. wouldn't call it a bug though, is kinda inconvenient.
Be THANKFUL..

As the author of the word INSULTABILITY, I assure you, you should LOVE the way invis works now.

When I invented the word INSULTABILITY, I also made the Chinese Fortune Cookie tesw for the spell by suggesting if one adds to the end of any Chinese Fortume Cookie "fortune" the words "for 20 seconds in bed", that the "fortune" still made sense.

The only thing left for improovement on the spell would be to make it last indefinately or certainly a lot longer. At least now, it can be used for escape and a "small sense of" SNEAK ATTACK.

Also, I have applauded bly for letting nightelves play mages with their shadowmeld. This is something, VERY tempting to me to try.

Critical Mass disappearing?

I was raiding Baradin Hold today, and noticed something strange. Whenever I applied Critical Mass to the raid boss, it would keep disappearing! It would disappear about one or two seconds after I put it on via Scorch or Pyroblast. It wouldn't expire from it's duration, it would just vanish off the target!

I don't even know what was causing it to disappear so fast, but if it helps, there was 1 priest, 5 paladins (no joke), 1 mage (me), 1 warrior, 1 shaman, and 1 warlock (maybe their spells interfered?)

Sadly, I don't have a video to actually show my situation.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or am I just going insane?

int ~ crit... how does it scale?

how much does 1 int give into crit chance?
i know 1 int roughly = 1 spellpower but what about crit?
Reason i ask is its going to be extremely hard for be not being an engineer to reach the 23% soft crit cap without molten armor and engineer so when im in mage armor ill still have the 100% crit chance with my pyroblast and fireblast... (scorch would be 84% w/o molten)

Thx!
At level 85, you will need 648.91 Int to gain 1% crit.

...as an engineer I'm curious why you keep saying it's harder to hit the crit cap without being engineer.

What is it you think engi's get to boost their crit?
If you mean goggles, cogwheels are unique equiped, so you only get 208 crit rating there, not much more than pvp gear. Synapse springs are only about .8% crit for 10 seconds.

Why blizzard changed RoF

I'd be willing to bet it's because of DF->RoF. Two insta cast spells that essentially poly a target for longer than a regular poly can. Yeah it takes two longish cooldowns, but it's usable on the run. With Cold Snap so you can not only lay down the amazing insta cast CC but the amazing insta cast hurt right after, this was a deadly combo.

I'm not sure a cast time was really the best way to go about removing this functionality. Maybe some messing around with DR's (add DF+RoF, remove poly) would be better instead; or maybe that would be too OP somehow?

FoF's and freezes are a dime a dozen unless you are squandering them; getting that DF up isn't an issue. Once the DF is up, you have a GCD to click RoF and lay it properly over the DF; not hard. Unless the CC'ed does something meaningful, they will be hit with an AoE poly right as DF ends.

Whatever awesome things blizzard thought we would find/do with RoF, I don't think it turning into a reliable, strategy defining CC ability was ever one of those. RoF's intended purpose was to prevent people from going to/from a certain area, not an insta cast 3 minute polymorph.

Unfortunately, as it always is. Human ingenuity has prevailed again and people have found ways to use something that it wasn't intended for.
Personally, I just wish RoF had a snare component but that's just me.

What should I spell steal...hmm

So I'm using the spellstealer addon, but it's not really doing it for me. Sure it shows all the stealable spells up on the target, but I want to be notified when specific spells come up. So I'm going to make power auras for those specific spells.

Does anyone have a link to a prefab list of important stealable spells? If not, just help me by listing the good ones you can think of here. I'll start..

hand of freedom, hand of sacrifice, blessing of protection....ya...those are the only ones that come to me off the top of my head, what can I say...I play a paladin most of the time lol.
Anything that provides an offensive or defensive bonus and isn't a pure-stat spell (like fortitude). It really depends on your current situation though, and if you're looking for a spell list it would be huge.
ya, I'm not really looking for a full list, most of the stuff is not super high priority to steal, I'm just looking for maybe the 10-15 best things to steal. Like bop/hof/bloodlust etc.
Then keep thinking my good man...Finding those answers by yourself can be a great source of improvement in-game ;)

You seem to have the intellectual skills to do so but I sense a bit of lazyness in the attitude :P

You're a pally, didnt even think of Avenging Wrath... :P
Slow Fall and Levitate atop of LM.
I think it might be easiest to just edit the code for your spellstealer addon. If it has a list of spells in the code that it watches for then you can just trim down the list to those you are interested in.

It's one of those things where trying to think of all the stuff on command just leads to a mind blank lol. I've been creating auras as I see things and go "oh ya!" but trying to just ramble them all off, I just get a mind block.

Very true, though its notification method is less eye catching than I would like anyway. I would like to try doing something like that though. The only programming I've done at all is some VB (in CIS 157 this semester, intro to VB class). What application do you use to edit wow addons? Or are they just done via text editor?
Specific Spells that I will cancel casting and steal immediately:

Paladin:
    Avenging Wrath
    Divine Favor
    Freedom
    Sacrifice
Speed of Light(I like the run speed)

Druid:
    Innervate
Predatory Strikes(it's hilarious when ferals drop form and start casting cyclone)

Priest:
    Inner Focus
    Power Infusion

Mage:
    Arcane Power
    Brain Freeze

Aside from that, I will generally spam spellsteal to strip every other buff away before I work on a target, so that I can steal all the HoT's/Shields applied as they come up. To be honest, it's more accurate to ask "what isn't worth spellstealing?" than "what should I spellsteal?"
What shouldn't you spellsteal?
I usually steal anything that gives the player an advantage (in that case, everything). It may not be useful to you (ex. Priests Shadow Orbs) but you can still screw them over.

Also, stealing Avenging Wrath from a Paladin is like stealing a lollipop from a baby.

looking for advice

I am looking for help on increasing my DPS.

I do not plan on raiding, but i would like to be able to get into (and perform decently) in cata heroics. I am not really into raiding at this point, but may be interested way down the line.

What I would like is info on what gear upgrades I should look for (and where to get them) in order to first get into heroics, but then in order to up my DPS.

I currently avg around 5.5-6.0 K dps in 5-man normal dungeons. I havent really been able to find how to increase this significantly. Most of my gear has no gem sockets yet, so that may be a future investment that i need to make, but I would be interested in where I should reforge/enchant my gear for maxing up my dps.

My current Rotation is mostly Arcane Barrage and Arcane missile (when available). I use Arcane Blast or Ice lance when neither of those are available. I also use Flame Orb when avalable and on Bosses use Mirror Image for extra DPS boos.

Any advice will be seriously considered.

Also is there any arcane mage guides similar to the fire mage guide stickied on this site.
Arcane rotation is fairly simple, Arcane Blast (because it builds up stacks making it hit harder) then Arcane missles on proc (because you dont want to have four Arcane Barrage stacks going or youll go oom in a heartbeat). It's fairly simple, just spam Arcane Blast till Missles proc then rinse and repeat. Also, pop your cooldowns (usually at beginning of boss fights) so use trinkets, Mirror Images, and Arcane Power and you'll be doing 10k+ dps in no time! :)

I hope this was helpful.

What do ya know!

Haven't heard any Mages that want to quit yet? Wonder why.

Heck, reduced mana cost , ice lance buff, why not stay.

Ice lance nerf, actually, but I'm leaving work now, so I'll let others explain to you why you can't read patch notes correctly. Also, all the mana cost reductions were to two specs that NOBODY complains about in PvE -- Fire and Arcane.
Our mastery was nerfed, making our frost spells weaker against frozen targets, including Ice Lance.Fingers of frost was changed to buff Ice Lance's damage by 15%, but only while FoF is active. 15-15=0
Frostbolt hit a little harder, but it has cast time, making it easily interruptible. The fact the IL was powerful was what made a frost mage's mobility better. Now, a frost mage's damage is pitiful when trained.
For frost mages, the only mana cost change was for the armors and it was a well needed change that personally, I wanted for years.

I heard Arcane and Fire pvp are godly though. You should complain about them and their terrible survivability, horrible movement damage for arcane and dispel vulnerability for fire, as well as reliance on their main tree(interrupt).
I lost 30,000 damage on my Deep Freeze spell and am sitting right around 10-11k dps my Frost spec. In my raid, that puts me squarely in front of the tanks and the healers.

Quit/Reroll? No. Pissed as hell that I lost anywhere from 1-3k dps from a huge nerf to my hardest hitting spell? Definitely.

So I just fell in love with my mage again

Specced arcane for the first time (in Cata) to do BH, with erm, full pvp gear.

Ended up pulling 12k =D

And did BG's with it, watching those LOL 38K CRITS ROFLROFLRFOL... it really makes my 12k deep freeze ice lances not as cool looking.

Arcane is more herp a derp, and I reccommend more mages join it. Less skill, more crits = funzies
I just started playing about 3 weeks ago, and was spec'd arcane while leveling and was having a blast.

Then I read all the forums talking about the greatness that is the fire spec so I figured I'd try it out a few days after hitting 85.

My overall dps in regular zones went from about 7k to 9.5k-10k.

While arcane is fun and simple, it's just a terrible spec in comparison to fire.

Not only did my AoE dps quadruple, but my single target dps even went up a bit because I'm not OOM in 2 minutes.

Which, as arcane with the half quest half dungeon gear I was using, you either run yourself out of mana or get embarrassed on the parse, no two ways about it.

But if you think arcane mage is fun, spec fire and download Scorchio 2.0 + CombustionHelper and practice up a bit with it.

It takes a lot more getting used to than arcane as far as proccing impact with blastwave and keeping LB up on multiple targets but not recasting it before it explodes or spreading it with impact when it's about to explode on a mob you don't have targetted etc.

But once you learn to play fire(should only take a couple days) it's so much more fun and useful.

You actually have more than 3 buttons to click and if your overall dps sucks it's your own fault, unlike arcane where you can't help it because you either AB2/AM or stack AB and run OOM through the whole damn zone.

LF 2200+ frost mage, will pay for transfer.

Looking for a great frost mage wanting to push the 2500+ bracket. I have the 2400 achievement myself and our priest has 2200. We are well coordinated together but are having trouble finding a good enough mage. PST Raishiwi on US-Venture Co. Alliance faction. Can talk on skype/vent about the details
bump
Come back horde and I might be interested.

Curious, you guys running frost/shadow/resto?

But you could be human! Baller status with volcano + mirror!

Mage Question

thinking of making an alt, wich mage spec is best for pve? can anyone plz help
I personally enjoy single minded-fury tbh.

Dps Question

I was tanking a random Cata heroic today and one of the dps was pulling 16k and 90% of his damage was from arcane blast. Is this normal?
Spamming AB is considered "burn phase" selection and is the highest dps arcane mages do. You will go oom if you do it all the time. (In raids for sure, if not heroics)

Constructive Critcism

Please look at my gear, rep, whatever and tell me what most i need to work on. Other than getting a new back, which i have yet to find one.

Just looking for tips from experienced mages

Another thing, I have always done heroics/triedtoraid as Arcane due to the fact that i can keep 13k Dps consistently until i lose mana which takes about 3 minutes on a raid boss. I've recently gone back to fire after seeing a mage pull 17k consistently in a heroic. But I cant seem get the DPS past 11k I will pull 11k on a good boss fight, but then fall to 7-8k on average boss fights.
Should i still start off with Scorch>Living Bomb>Fireblast/Scorch until Pyro proc and combust?

Just lookin for tips
Thanks
a nub
Fire's going to suck in single target heroic damage.

I'd open up with Pyro since it gives the tank time to get threat anyway.
That's what i thought before I saw that Fire Mage in a heroic pull 13k dps on boss. He was geared in about 2 tier eleven pieces and Was about half in epics
You need alot of help. Make a toon in game on my server and we'll talk. Hope you have a while, but I can promise to fix alot of issues.

Fires single target dps in heroics is fine. When I had fresh gear for heroics I was 9k-10k. Now most bosses I am at 19k-23k

As far as rotation goes for single target I do - Scorch > LB > Flame Orb > FB spam and using Pyro! on proc. Make sure to combust right after a good crit on FB and Pyro ONLY.
You do not need a pyro dot on there to have a great combustion. If you get a big FB crit you should combust if you have LB up as well.

Make sure you are using Flame orb on CD

Enchant, you have 4 unenchanted items.

You are gemming incorrectly INT>HIT you should read the EJ fire mage post it helps alot.
Do NOT gem hit. Reforge to hit and gem INT

Your gloves should be enchanted with haste not mastery.

Sorry I know I am all over the place... hope this helps some
Ok made some major changes thanks to Murdawg, New tips please . dont be a %@!%
For heroics.
You are 4% above the hit cap.
Don't Gem haste or reforge haste u don't have the gear for it.
Get rawr use it.

Everything u need is here

Should I stack Mastery for PVP?

My understanding of the Frost Mage Mastery nerf was that Mastery was too good for PVP so they nerffed the base mastery by 4 points. But they did not nerf the effect of the mastery did they? So I thought that if I stacked Mastery and got it back over where my mastery used to be that this would be an effective strategy.

However, I have not been having good results. This may be because I have been spending too much time trying to gear up my DK and have gotten rusty on my mage, but my mage feels sort of weak now.

Now I am wondering if instead of trying to make Mastery less OP for frost mages, if Blizzard's aim in the nerf was actually to make Mastery exclusively a PVE stat like it is with many other classes? By stacking Mastery am I giving up so much on other stats as to completely gimp myself?

Should I be stacking all Crit instead as Nighttempest of Lauching Skull is?

Is anyone favoring a haste build for Frost these days?
No you should not. Crit is more important because of how shatter works. If you stacked mastery you'd increase dmg against frozen targets...but those attacks would crit a lot less often against those frozen targets.

arcane stat priority

I have read different opinions on this and I would like to see if there is agreement. From that I understand (after Int and Hit) it is Mastery > Haste > Crit if you do not have the 4pc T11 bonus and Mastery > Crit > Haste if you do have the 4pc T11 bonus. The difference, as I understand it, is the T11 bonus may push you to the GCD when in the burn phase and time warp is active. Is this correct?
Even with 4 piece t11 Rawr shows that haste is a little better than crit, so it would be -

Int >>>> hit >> mastery >> haste > crit.

Simulationcraft gives weird results with the default simulation settings. Its scaling value for crit is about 15% higher than haste (in 359 gear), BUT if you actually trade a little haste for crit the simulated dps goes down. So simulationcraft is disagreeing with itself; I think the problem is more likely to be in the scaling calculation than in the simultation, so I'm betting simulationcraft would agree with rawr if that bug was fixed.

Keep in mind that haste is much better than crit when not affected by heroism, so -
If you are in group with super dps heroism will be active for a larger % of the time, the gcd haste cap while affected by heroism will be more significant, and rawr/simulationcraft may rate haste too high for you. For me personally my guild is low on dps, which makes haste more valuable than rawr/simulationcraft estimate.

Question regarding 'balance' and decisions

First of all, yes I'm posting on an alt. My questions have nothing to do with my actual character management, hence, this level 1. My mage is not amazing(yet! :D). Please keep replies in this thread polite.

Here's my thinking:

Arcane: Everyone knows this spec is not good in PvE and I think I've only seen 1 or 2 Arcanes in PvP. It seems they just use far too much mana to be able to compete. It's been tested with Sims, real raid testing, etc. And yet, still, no fixes for this at all! And there are more issues than just Mana usage. Many players would LOVE to be able to raid as Arcane, but it does not seem feasible.

Fire: Far too dependent on RNG. Fire needs lots and lots of crit and then start praying that RNG is on your side. The gear just doesn't give enough. It's clunky to play, also, as others have described. Ignite munching; this has not been resolved and it is not as if this is a new issue, either.

Frost: Increased turret damage. Deep Freeze change; One of Frost's main abilities that is on a decently long CD barely does about as much damage as other classes short CD abilities. SW:D for example. Short CD, comparable damage.

Time Warp: I don't need to explain this one.

We Mages have MANY issues that need addressing. Instead, Mages are given X, Y, and Z fixes which not only address almost none of the problems above, but, even ones I did not include that I'm sure others will list if so inclined. On top of all of these things, the well-known and respected mages do testing in several ways and come back and basically say it's rubbish and did not particularly help these things. As many, many, many other posts in the last few days have demonstrated.

So, here is the question:

Why is it that once a patch goes live, and even on the PTR which gives people time to test things and give input before they go live, does it feel like Blizzard either completely ignores feedback or reads it and refuses to address them? It seems as if people not only test things on PTR, but come to the exact same conclusions once changes go live, and yet, nothing is done... as if it's all just a big waste of time.

I am not a top 20 world guild or even within a mile of them. But, I do read a lot. And I notice the feelings and facts stated and demonstrated in many ways by others. It just seems like players are not listened to at all in many respects.

And it's not just Mages that this is happening to.

What to do with reforging gear???

So i am stumped on what to do with reforging, i understood at first i need to reforge to hit in order to get hit capped and now i am capped. But now i don't know what to do, if i could get anyone of these questions answered it would be so helpful.

1. How do i know what to get rid of when reforging.
and
2. What do i replace what i am getting rid of with. (Is there some kind of pairing, like does it always go crit->haste, or mastery->crit) just an example.

If someone can please help me out with this it would be so useful.

Thanks,
Lucronth(Arcane/Fire Mage)
Spirit is useless for mages, so that's what you first want to reforge into hit/haste/crit.

There's not really a "pairing", it's basically just Spirit->anything that's not spirit (hit, haste, crit, whatever)

You can be either dungeon or raid hit capped, lots of folks switch between the two caps (dungeon cap is lower than raid hit cap) and constantly tinker with that, which I don't have the patience or time to do.

I reforged everything I could into haste after reaching raid hit cap. :P

Generally the rule of thumb is:

Hit to cap (or as close to it as you can. This is the first expansion where Hit isn't always the most important thing ever. INT is more important so you don't want to gem for HIT unless the socket bonus makes sense).

Haste to soft cap. It's 12.5% and depending on your raid group you might need significantly less. For example if you have a Shadow Priest you only need 7.5% due to their 5% buff. Unfortunately for me, I don't run with anyone that can provide additional Haste so I had to go to the cap on my own.

Crit. Just as much as you can.

So when reforging, the first thing to forge out is Mastery. It's not useless to us but it's nowhere near as good as the other stats. Most of your reforging is going to go towards Hit but if you have pieces with Mastery after getting Hit capped, go for Haste or Crit.

As far as Spirit goes, the first rule of thumb is to not take Spirit gear in the first place. Spirit is complete 100% useless for us. The only thing it's good for is reforging and you'd be better off with a different item that didn't have spirit on it in the first place. If you do end up with a Spirit item as a temporary item, forge it with the above rules.

As far as Spirit
Okay so i think i understand, so since i raid and i am raid hit capped i should start reforging to critical strike and haste.

What i don't understand is you said mastery is not as important, that doesn't seem right because if you go by what MaxDPS.com says with gems it is as follows:

+40 Intellect is - 44.22 DPS
+40 Haste is - 21.85 DPS
+40 Mastery is - 16.74 DPS
+40 Critical Strike Rating is - 14.81 DPS

So wouldn't it be that Critical Strike Chance is the least useful of them all, that is at least how i take it, but i could be wrong.

And the other thing how are you supposed to know what to stat to reforge out of, do you reforge out of the lowest stat or the highest stat or is it basically pick of the litter and you have to choose your self?

Okay so i think it just clicked, for example if the item has(Hit and Critical Strike), then i reforge the(Critical Strike Rating -> Haste), and if the item has(Hit and Haste) then reforge(Haste -> Critical Strike), and then if(Hit and Mastery) then reforge the(Mastery -> Haste).

Is that about right?

Your answer is probably hard since your are arcane and fire spec'd

Generally, I respec the lowest priority dps stat into another.

Fire currently has little use for mastery so I reforge that to Hit (to cap)/hast/crit

Arcane has great use of mastery and little use for crit so an arcane mage would likely reforge all crit to hit (to cap)/mastery/haste.

What do people mean exactly when they state is as Hit/Mastery/Haste, that is basically the only thing that is unclear with me.
That is the stat priority order.
Okay so now with Arcane Spec it says that Mana Adept increases damage done by 22% based on mana left in pool, so does that mean the cap for that would be 22?
Arcane: Hit, then Mastery or Haste, then Crit.
Fire: Hit, then Crit, then Haste, then Mastery.

That's your priority order. Do that.
Of course you could just have Rawr do the calculations and it is a LOT easier on the brain. It is at:

http://elitistjerks.com/rawr.php

Have it pull up your character from the armory, have it do an optimize. If it tells you certain gems or enchants "aren't available" go in and manually tag them as available and try again. It will tell you what you should change and you can see what effect it will have on your stats.

There is no reason to not use it to at least analyse, even if you decided not to make the changes.

Comb for da bolds...

Yup , I am talknig about mage mastery right now. It doesnt matter what I do, I still have to stuck with a good 700+ useless mastery ratings... Can we have more freaking caster gears without those "used condom" stats so called mastery? If blizz cant make mastery more useful, what about give us an option to get rid of more?

Mages arnt doing too good in pve atm, having to put up with 1742 hit rating and 7 to 800 of useless mastery arnt helping at all. As a matter of fact, I think maybe those were the main reasons why mages arnt doing so good. Fix those will not get you over 9000 complains about "OP" pvp mages, and you will make pve mages very happy.

Suggestions for my gear/gem/enchant choices?

Hey fellow mages. I'm having a slightly difficult time figuring out why my DPS is extremely very low compared to other mages when I either look on meters or logs. If possible, I'd like some criticism, help, and/or ideas as to what you guys think of my current gear/gem/enchant choices, and if you have any suggestions.

After some tinkering, this is what I have as of "right now" of this posting:
normal mode gear will have (N), heroic will be (H), as for the 'cheap' enchants I have and will be re-enchanting things such as chest from 15->20, or hurricane->Power Torrent

(H)Book of Binding WIll
+40 Intellect (Off-hand enchant)
Reforged Haste -> Crit Rating

Corla's Baton
Reforged Mastery -> Haste Rating

Here is a following list of items I have access/available to via bank/inventory:
(N)Firelord's Hood
(N)Flame Pillar Leggings
(N)Einhorn's Galoshes
(N)Dreamless Belt
(N)Shadow of Dread
(N)Valiona's Medallion
(N)Bracers of the Bronze Flight
(N)Incineratus

So a bit of explanation as to why certain reforge choices were made, obviously in my old gear style I always made sure I was 17% (hit capped), yet when I check a lot of raiding mages, they are sitting just a little over 16%, but under 17%. I have read the EJ Forums that says Int being the most 'powerful' stat.

As for some reforge choices were to haste instead of crit, I am unsure about that because I have been told from a few other mages that after reaching a certain % or soft cap will yield more DPS and then followed by Crit in terms of how important the stat is, however isn't Fire supposed to be heavily Critical Rating dependant?

I have mats and am just waiting for enchanters to log on to enchant power torrent, +int to bracers, and the +20 chest stats.

What suggestions do you have that I can improve the gear/gem/enchant choices? I really dislike being low out of all caster DPS (even if I don't fail at boss mechanics).

EDIT:
It may also be my execution & rotation. For Combustion, I really don't know why the dot tick is so generally low (possibly being ignite munched by LB or something else?). I use Combustion usually when I have Critical Mass (or warlock debuff up on the boss), Living Bomb, a Pyroblast dot, and usually a 30-40k Crit from either the Pyro or Fireball. Is this using Combustion effectively or are there any suggestions for this?

Mage Question

Is frost still the best leveling spec? im starting a mage and was wanting to know.
I level frost.
i leveled arcane and it was pretty fun
They're all viable for leveling, but most prefer frost for the amount of control it holds.
Frost gives you a sacrifical pet for the mobs to munch on while you blink away before hitting the dispell pet and go invisible macro. Being the only one to survive dungeon wipes saves a lot of repair gold ^-^

Fire Mage Spell Rotation

I'm a total scrub at this game ;x and I'm doing all I can to get better... can I get any help with a good PVE spell rotation for a mage? I want to atleast do a little bit better. I've been reading a lot of forums and stuff but I just can't figure out a good spell rotation. Help!
Also if you could just screenshot your spell set up that'd be kewl too :)
Okay, go with a frost spec or something else entirely for pve. Fire has way to much of an RNG factor.
Fire, it's simple really.

Glyphs: Fireball, Molten armor (use that not mage), and Pyroblast

Addod: CombustionHelper => get it. Helps with keeping living bomb up and tells you the optimal time to pop combustion.

Rotation: 1x scorch => LB => Fireball spam
Keep LB up at all times but don't clip it (refreshing too early) Use hot streak procs, but don't cancel a fireball cast to use it. Only use scorch if your critical mass is about to fall off or you're completely oom (Mana gems > If your in a long fight use it when you get to about 80% mana and you can use it again before your oom most likely).

Pop Flame Orb and mirror image as much as possible during the fight. Pop combustion only when CombustionHelper turns green.

Good luck, and Fire scales with gear a lot.

Thank you! Do you think I should stay fire for DPS? Elitist Jerks suggested fire, but I mean if Frost is easier for nubs then I could change back. But, everyone has been suggesting fire for top dps
The difference between the two, unless you're raiding competitively, is negligible. Play what you think is fun.
Frost is a lot more hectic than fire, but if that suits you then go for it.

I find it amusing that you have the impression that Frost is easier than Fire. I'm not saying Frost is especially hard, but Fire single target equates to fireball spam with LB refresh, and maybe two combusts per fight and Flame Orb whenever it comes up. And then of course, if you happen to get lucky, a HS will proc.

Frost consists of mostly frostbolt spam, but you need to use Pet Freeze, be smart enough to save 1 charge of FoF whenever possible so when BF procs you have a charge to use, Frostfire Orb use without wasting FoF procs, always having Freeze or a FoF charge ready when Deep Freeze comes off CD, etc.

I honestly don't believe Fire is harder to play in single target situations, but quite the contrary.
