I love arcane mage.. for pvp and pve. I have a few idea's that would make it both more interesting and fun and more effective in Both pvp and pve, Tell me wha tyou guys think. Missles while moving! NO i have a better idea, arcane is about manipulating time right? you cast missles and a version of you casts it while you can move and cast somthing else, as if you poped into the future a few seconds and the past you is still casting the spell, it would be great for mobility and fun, also great for pvp so you dont have to icelance spam between barrage when running your ass off :P. Also somthing like, I dont know time snap :P somthing that moved your mana health and status back 5 seconds, maybe even position if thats possible, would give u a defensive CD that arcane really needs in pvp also a mana managment cd for pve, alowing for another burst period then time snap back to higher mana instead of just relying on evo, would make it more fun for sure. What do you guys think?
Please stop trolling the boards with this stuff. We understand that you think that arcane needs new toys. We don't, however, need this in every thread and even in its own post.
How bout giving us the old style of arc dps? The one where building up arc blast adds up to more damage to the other spells.
I wish Arcane could be more reliant on its own spells. At least having a better defensive cooldown that they can talent for or something. I coulda swore timewarp was going to be something special for arcane mages... guess not :/

Mage Leveling Spec
Which is the best?
There is no "best" IMHO.
Leveling is so trivial now you can pretty much pick a spec, roll your face across the keyboard, and gain levels.
For me I went Arcane till my low 50's then took Frost to 85. Reason being I felt Frost was kinda gimped at low levels, but once you get a stockpile of talent points it is really awesome.
I agree with Tihra pretty much. For example, I did it in reverse. I leveled frost to 80, then arcane 80-85 because of the talent that applies slow with each Arcane Blast. Either way, learn your spec's kiting abilities, and leveling is a breeze.

mage arena
anyone else bored of melee cleave strat being train mage till it dies. Currently playing at 2400 mmr and seems thats the strat for every comp its getting pretty tiresome doing the same thing every match q enter buff kite and try and get a kill before ooming and without the mana to barrier or use novas not including pet nova = healer ooming fast. In b4 get your partners to peel they do and i get sum good drinks off during games but alot of the time it just prolongs the inevitable the melee cleave with unlimited resource wins. Anyone playing at similar or higher mmr / rating have any solutions? Im armor swapping prior to huge burst on me then swapping back once cds are over.

Druid/warrior versus mage/rogue
I thought this was supposed to be a bread and butter match but we lose to this team about 80% of the time.
Heres our strat-
I go head to head with warrior until druid pops out. Rogue goes on druid, I deep freeze -> RoF the warrior. Warrior usually trinkets this and immediately hops onto my rogue. I usually am able to cc the warrior long enough for us to get the druid to pop tree. Once he pops tree we try and reset, but we run into problems, my rogue cant stay alive long enough and cant get a restealth with bleeds on him. I try and get the warrior off of him, but druid constantly dispels my stuff and the only thing I can do is Deep freeze and blanket cs which still isnt enough time. My rogue usually is dead before We can get the reset and blind the warrior and go for the druid kill.
Should we be going after warrior? If so, how do we counter the retaliation and tree form. Druid usually trinket my RoF, he gets blinded, warrior pops retaliation.
I'd really appreciate some help with this comp on what to do.
always go on a warrior. force a tree/enraged regen with your first smoke bomb. Reset and nuke the warrior again. Playing against a good warrior/healer is a pain in the ass, since the warrior will eat you or the rogue with proper dispels.
If you ever get shammy warrior just quit. going up against shear charge pummel spell reflect and grounding as a mage is a nightmare.
I don't die to that team, but I can't peel enough for my rogue. He usually dies because he cant get bleeds off and cant get away from the warrior. Ok so we go for the warrior. And we want to get the warrior to pop enrage regen and get the druid to pop tree and trinket. Whats the best way to approach this.
Just curious, new to Mage/Rogue.
^^^^
This is exactly the problem. It used to not be an issue as druids didn't have magical dispels thus i could freeze the warrior for hours and DF, imp CS the druid to give my rogue enough time for the bleeds to come off.
In cata this is a whole different story as all healers have a magical dispel giving the warrior free rain over my rogue. Is it possible to burst through druid heals when he is in tree form?
Jesus, don't listen to these guys. Sup i play rogue/mage at 2416 rating.
Druid/mage is easy to beat and only loses if the team is truely ultra defensive and can get you or the rogue down in a Tdown. That's the ONLY time.
Go on warrior, hard, make sure to pet nova to get a fof charge, when druid comes out, rightclick gladius to make him your focus and hit him with a DF/rof and then kidney warrior during that time. before your pet nova breaks, he will be atout 70% hp by that time if you guys are actually getting openers on him. (make sure to sap warrior so he wastes his sap break and hit him with a CSand you should be casting Fbolt during that time, and do what was said above.
Most druids trinket Rof in the Df/rof CS him, and when cs is off, smokebomb, warrior will leap out and then charge either one of you, your rogue vanishes during this time. This is where you can do either 2 things. CC druid for 4 seconds(dr from rof) and resit back on warrior with Sdance going or hardswitch to druid You will still have blind/redirect/etc. REMEMBER, don't get into train mode, u have the ability as a mage, to frostbolt anyone at any time with this comp and causes switches, rogue will WANT to be on warrior mainly, a rogue if he's determined will never die to a warrior, bleeds don't matter, due to cripple kiting and KS/gouge(gouge mainly if he's sub) This comp can work if you're sub or even if you're envenom(which melee cleaves even more so).
This comp revolves around alot on the rogue not being a retard and trying to play like he's envenom if he's sub, tell him to think like a tool of control for you, with sdance being the surgical scalpel for you. Sub is all about control and holding people down, this comp, while not as potent as pre-patch shadow/rogue is still strong because mage is hard to hold down, and with a rogue there peeling, even harder and can cause moments where a team WILL make a mistake.
Hope the wall helped.
Yeah, basically what Dunnerdawg said. Start on War to get druid out. You can even keep the rogue stealth to try and find the druid and just let you start out on the warrior all by yourself. You might be able to catch the druid in a sap.
If you catch druid in the sap go hard on the warrior, and kite him some what near the druid so your rogue can combo sap with his blind. He will either have to eat an 8 second sap while you are kite/dpsing the war and then trinket blind, or trinket sap and eat a full 8 second blind.
Whichever he trinkets out of then, you as the mage, will want to Deep/ring the druid for another 8-10 seconds of cc. So you have a chance to pull off a full blind + deep/ring on druid while having the option of having your rogue redirecting a kidney ( which probably isn't ideal because of Dr's with deep freeze) or you can, if you rogue is really good, after you cc chain do a vanish garrote for 4.5 sec silence + shadow stepping to warrior and then your blanket cs for like 6-7 seconds of silence.
The rogue shouldn't be "tanking" the warrior. But kiting him along with you with disarms and crippling poisons.
Also if you have good timing when you catch the druid in a cc chain you want to focus on war. Have your rogue conserve his energy some so that somewhere near the end of the cc chain you can have rogue smoke bomb/kidney shot war. Make sure you are ready to be in the smoke bomb and blow all your offensive cd's on the war.
That's where the rogue vanish garrote/mage blanket cs on the druid comes into play if you can't quite finish off the war. But with crippling poison and your nova's you can also have your rogue premed to do a second smokebomb you can coldsnap for another deep/ring for a few extra seconds of ccing...
I wouldn't try to focus down the druid unless he as already blown tree form, and trinket (so he can't get out of a deep freeze or full kidney) and is in a bad spot (in the open so he can't pillar hump los you as the mage) and you are able to get the war in some kind of cc chain so he can't charge in and peel you and the rogue off before finishing druid.
It's just a matter of being able to really time out your cc chains focus one down.
If you couldn't finish off the warrior and he has a full run of dots. See if you can hard switch the druid and put the warrior in a nice cc chain... etc...

Old Player, New Mage
Hello WoW Community,
I have played a few classes in my day, have done a few raids, but unfortunately have not played in a long time. I obviously came back to WoW because of the major changes that have taken place, but that also means I still have a few things to learn. I decided to start fresh and have done a little reading on mages, but I would like some insight from "the veterans" on the most efficient spec I can pursue while leveling?
Thanks!
Studbucket
Hey i'm the same way bro. I created and started leveling a mage too. I was gone since late 08, early 09. Frost is now good for leveling.
1) Pick any spec
2) Roll your face across keyboard
3) Gain levels
Leveling is ridiculously easy now... in fact you will outlevel the zones you are in and be looking at green or gray mobs before it's all said and done.
Personally I leveled Arcane till my low 50's then went Frost to 85. Reason being I felt Frost was pretty weak without a stockpile of talent points, but once I got there it was golden and a great leveling spec.
I wasn't aware leveling was so simple now, but I guess I can't complain if that significantly cuts back on the amount of time I have to roll my face across the keyboard.
Tihra, I see what you mean about Frost. Should be a sound method to get to the cap with haste!

Why is the nerf part of Frost Specialization?
Kind of seems like a slap in the face to have our Frost Specialization state that it "Increases Frost spells and Frostbolt by x, but reduces your mastery by 6". Is that supposed to make people want to spec Frost? If you are going to nerf the mastery, just do it. Don't think we need a constant reminder every time we examine the tree.
